Curated Fringe picks for our post-tour Edinburgh week (~Aug 6–12, Jeff + Lori and a few of the guys), plus a Lori-tuned section for the smart/funny/musical shows she’ll love. Every show below is date-checked to run during Aug 7–12 unless flagged otherwise. Compiled from the official 2026 programme, critic previews (Time Out, The Stage, WhatsOnStage, Chortle, British Comedy Guide) and recent award-winners (Edinburgh Comedy Award, Fringe First). Times/dark-days can shift — confirm on the booking page before locking an evening.

📣 When reviews land: the 2026 previews are already out; star-rated reviews and “best of week one” roundups start flowing ~Aug 5–10 — right as we arrive. Smart play: book the proven sell-outs now (below) and leave a couple of evenings open to grab whatever’s pulling 4–5★ once we’re on the ground. The first weekly Fringe First theatre awards drop ~Aug 7–8, mid-window.

The guys also have a Monkey Barrel Comedy slot on Jul 29 (pre-tour) — this doc is for the Fringe-week window after everyone’s back in Edinburgh.

⚠️ Book early — proven sell-outs

  • Mythos: Ragnarök (Assembly Rooms) — sells out every year.
  • Baby Wants Candy (Assembly George Square) — 8-year Fringe sell-out.
  • Reuben Kaye’s Kaye Hole (Underbelly Circus Hub) — returning late-night sell-out.
  • Showstopper! The Improvised Musical (Pleasance Courtyard) — perennial sell-out.
  • Flo & Joan: One Man Musical (Pleasance Dome) — West End / Melbourne sell-out transfer.

🎪 Spectacle & late-night variety — the group sweet spot

Rowdy, drink-in-hand, no-language-barrier crowd-pleasers. Great after dinner.

  • Mythos: Ragnarök — Assembly Rooms, ~21:25 (runs Aug 6–29). Norse mythology staged as live pro wrestling (Ed Gamester as Loki). 5th year, sold out four Fringes running. Tailor-made for the guys. Book early.
  • Reuben Kaye’s Kaye Hole — Underbelly Circus Hub (Aug 5–31). Filthy, brilliant live-band late-night variety hosted by Reuben Kaye. 18+. Book early.
  • Bernie Dieter’s Club Kabarett — Underbelly Circus Hub, Spiegeltent (Aug 5–31). Weimar-style circus cabaret — aerial, fire, gender-bending glamour. The marquee late-night room.
  • Hot Dub Time Machine: House Party — Assembly. Time-travelling DJ party show; pure high-energy fun.
  • Late’n’Live — Gilded Balloon. The Fringe’s chaotic ~1am institution with surprise big-name drop-ins.
  • Black Blues Brothers — McEwan Hall, ~5pm daily. Kenyan acrobatic troupe doing the Blues Brothers — jaw-dropping, all-ages.
  • Colin Cloud: Hoax — Pleasance. Sherlock-style “forensic mind-reader” / mentalist; great group shock value.
  • The Sumo Show: Hirakuza — Underbelly Circus Hub. Japanese pro-wrestling spectacle with audience participation.

Heads-up: the usual lads’-night staple La Clique / La Soirée may not run in 2026 (its Spiegeltent hit a planning rejection). Don’t build an evening around it — verify first.

🎤 Stand-up comedy

Top pick (in-window):

  • Ahir Shah: Golden — Pleasance Courtyard, 19:30 (Aug 6–30). Warm, literate, brilliantly written storytelling stand-up; his last show Ends won the 2023 Edinburgh Comedy Award. The safest quality-headliner bet for our dates — funny and has a heart.

Monkey Barrel strand (reliably the best-curated comedy room):

  • Ania Magliano: Peach Fuzz (Aug 5–30) — sharp, self-aware rising star; prior Best Show nominee.
  • Lara Ricote: INKLING — former Best Newcomer winner.
  • Sofie Hagen · Alice Fraser: Oh Man! (Monkey Barrel at O’Neills, 20:40) · Eleanor Morton: The Mermaid.

Other returning headliners in the window:

  • Rhys James: Chop Logic (Pleasance Courtyard) · Susie McCabe (Assembly — Scottish crowd-pleaser) · Rosie Jones · Sophie Duker (Pleasance) · Geoff Norcott · Jack Rooke (Underbelly).

⛔ Outside Aug 7–12 — don’t count on these: Daniel Sloss: BITTER (Playhouse, Aug 14–15 only), Alex Edelman (from Aug 18), Ari Eldjárn (Aug 28–30).

Quality watchlist (2025 award-winners — check for a 2026 return during our dates): Best Show Sam Nicoresti, Best Newcomer Ayoade Bamgboye, plus nominees Ian Smith, Katie Norris, Creepy Boys.

🎭 Improv & musical comedy — best “whole group” bet

Low-risk, high-fun; everyone leaves happy.

  • Baby Wants Candy — Assembly George Square (Aug 5–30). A fully improvised musical from an audience-shouted title. 8-year sell-out — book early.
  • Austentatious — McEwan Hall / Underbelly (Aug 7–16). An improvised “lost Jane Austen novel” by a crack ensemble — witty, literary, warm-hearted. A perfect afternoon.
  • Abandoman — Underbelly Cowgate (Aug 5–29). Hip-hop / musical improv with huge crowd energy.
  • Showstopper! The Improvised Musical — Pleasance Courtyard, 17:20 (Jul 30–Aug 24, dark Aug 11). Olivier Award-winning: a brand-new full musical improvised on the spot. Book early.

🎶 Music & musicals

  • Bliss — Pleasance Courtyard, The Grand (Aug 5–31). The biggest new musical of the Fringe — 17 West End performers, pop-rock, from the Cabaret creative team.
  • The Singer — Traverse Theatre, Traverse 1. New musical scored by KT Tunstall, dir. Cora Bissett; performed in English + BSL. The classy, heartfelt pick.
  • Oil & Whiskey — award-winning country-rock musical (sold out at 2025 NYC Fringe). Thematically perfect for a whisky crew — confirm dates.
  • FLOP! The Best Songs From the Worst Musicals — Gilded Balloon Teviot. Hilarious celebration of Broadway/West End flops; musical-theatre-nerd catnip.

🎭 Theatre & drama (if you want one “proper play”)

  • Roleplay — Summerhall (Aug 6–31). A solo comedy-thriller from Francesca Moody Productions (the Fleabag / Baby Reindeer producer). High pedigree — more sit-and-watch than group romp.
  • Reliable drama strands: Summerhall, Traverse, Pleasance. 2025 Fringe First winners worth checking for 2026 transfers: Monstering the Rocketman (Henry Naylor), Eat the Rich, Red Like Fruit.

💜 For Lori — smart, funny, musical, great ensemble

Tuned to her taste: Schitt’s Creek, Loot, Call My Agent (warm, character-driven, sharp writing) + Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Hamilton, Glee (she loves musical comedy).

Her bullseye — musical comedy & improvised musicals:

  • Showstopper! The Improvised Musical — Pleasance Courtyard, 17:20 (dark Aug 11). Olivier-winning; a whole musical invented live. The single most Lori show at the Fringe.
  • Flo & Joan: One Man Musical — Pleasance Dome, Queen Dome, 19:00 (Jul 31–Aug 25, except Aug 14). Award-winning sister duo — razor-sharp, funny, gorgeously written songs. Pure Crazy-Ex-Girlfriend energy. Book early.
  • Show Choir — a-cappella showcase of the best British musicals (Six, Operation Mincemeat, Lloyd Webber). Two years of sold-out runs. Her Glee fix — confirm venue/dates.
  • Bliss — Pleasance Courtyard, The Grand (Aug 5–31). Big, polished, funny pop-rock musical.
  • Fuccbois: Live in Concert — Assembly George Square Studios (Aug 5–31). Musical comedy staging a toxic boyband’s farewell — sharp satire with real tunes.
  • FLOP! The Best Songs From the Worst Musicals — Gilded Balloon Teviot.
  • Disenchanted! — Pleasance at EICC (Aug 5–30). Fairytale princesses “done playing nice” — cheeky ensemble musical comedy.

Smart, warm, character-driven comedy:

  • Ahir Shah: Golden — the most Schitt’s-Creek-in-spirit stand-up here: funny with real heart. Great for you both.
  • Austentatious — witty, literary, Call-My-Agent-caliber ensemble chemistry. A perfect couple’s afternoon.
  • Ania Magliano: Peach Fuzz — clever, self-aware, effortlessly funny; never mean.
  • Crybabies: The Scaring — a top sketch trio; tight, silly ensemble writing.

Two you’ll both love: Austentatious and Ahir Shah work for a Lori-and-Jeff outing or the whole crew. Showstopper! at 5:20pm is a great early-evening show before meeting the guys for a late-night spectacle.
